Social media predictions for in 2025
It’s really no surprise then that short-form video content will continue to dominate in 2025, with platforms like TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube leading the way (and LinkedIn joining the charge) . Reels cater to the demand for quick, engaging content that delivers instant gratification, driving higher engagement rates and encouraging viral sharing.
For brands, this presents an opportunity to get creative, delivering impactful messages in just a few seconds. As attention spans shrink and competition intensifies, investing in short-form videos will be essential for staying visible and relevant in an overcrowded digital space.
2. Rise of decentralised platforms
Despite being a former X (Twitter) addict and user for over 13 years, I must admit decentralised platforms like Threads and Bluesky are quickly becoming a much more appealing alternative.
Perhaps it’s the absence of politics, heated arguments or incessant ads – take your pick – but the growing popularity of “Prosocial Media” platforms speaks for itself. According to Business of Apps, Threads is growing at a fast rate, already hitting 275 million monthly active users in November 2024 (X stands at 382 active monthly users).
Further, with its seamless integration with Instagram, Threads offers a unique advantage for brands and creators to engage directly with their audiences.
3. Revolutionising social media through AI
It wouldn’t be a digital marketing blog post without mentioning AI now would it?
Moving into 2025, AI will continue to be deeply integrated across social media platforms. You can expect to see AI at work in content creation tools, automatically generating captions, videos, and even personalised ads based on user behaviour.
Platforms like Facebook and Instagram will also be using AI to power customer service chatbots, providing real-time support without human intervention.
Additionally, content moderation will be more automated, with AI flagging harmful posts and maintaining safer online spaces (phew!). For brands, these advancements will offer more precise targeting and improved customer interactions.
4. Immersive Social Media is the future
Fancy going to a concert without leaving your sofa? Or trying on a pair of virtual shoes whilst lying in bed?
AR and VR are set to transform social media by creating immersive experiences that blend the digital and physical worlds.
You can expect to see AR enhance shopping, by allowing users to virtually try on products, while VR will enable virtual meetups and interactive events like concerts. Brands can leverage AR and VR to create engaging experiences, such as virtual showrooms and interactive ads, offering users more ways to connect with products and each other. We’re excited for the new marketing and user engagement opportunities this will bring for our clients.
5. Growth of the creator economy
Love them or hate them, content creators are set to be at the centre of brands core marketing strategies. Influencers authentic connections with audiences make them invaluable partners for targeting specific audiences/customers.
It’s highly likely that brands will increasingly rely on creators to tell their stories, co-create products, and lead campaigns. With the rise of smaller/more specific influencers, brands can focus on hyper-targeted, highly engaged communities.
